From September 1, 2021, the new EU product regulation for light sources and control gear will apply. As a result, certain illuminants are once again phased out.
In order to reduce overall energy consumption and greenhouse emissions, the European Union adopted, among other things, the so-called Ecodesign Directive (2009/125/EC) in 2009. Its aim is to ensure the free movement of energy-related products in the EU internal market and to reduce the environmental impact of these products.
From September 1, 2021, the new product regulation for light sources and separate operating devices (2019/2020/EU) will apply. This results in new energy efficiency requirements that entail phasing out certain lamps. The phase-out will continue in two stages – on September 1, 2021, and September 1, 2023.
